Police say Joseph Huvelle became combative with police after he drunkenly drove his car into a tree.

A New York man who was allegedly driving drunk when he drove through a stop sign and struck a tree later spit and kicked police during booking, police said.

It was determined Huvelle was intoxicated, police said.

"Huvelle was combative and scuffled with officers as he was being taken into custody at the scene," police Sgt. Frank Cappiello said in a statement. "Upon arrival at police headquarters, Huvelle again fought with police, spit at the officers and kicked one officer in the groin prior to being subdued with the use of a Taser."
