Amity Rugby ready to start 2013 Season

Amity Rugby Football Club is starting it's 2013 Season with open sign-ups and informational meeting for local area high school students.

The Amity Rugby Football Club is holding an open sign-up and informational meeting for all players and parents Wednesday night, February 13th at 5:30pm at the Amity High School cafeteria 25 Newton Rd, Woodbridge, CT 06525

The Amity Rugby Football club is in its 4th year and competes in Connecticut’s State Based Rugby Organizations Division II. The club is open to any area high school students that do not have a rugby program at their school. We field two teams, an A side and a developmental side. Athletes who love a fast-paced, action-packed sport may be interested in trying rugby. No experience is necessary.

While most U.S. team sports have seen recent declines in participation, rugby has enjoyed double digit growth over the last two years. Rugby will debut as an Olympic sport at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro which will continue to fuel growth worldwide and here in the United States. Congratulations to Amity rugby with 35 student players at their first 2013 season meeting Monday night. The club has shown explosive growth, student passion for the game and parental support. This puts rugby at Amity in the highest end of student involvement -- which only a handful of sports achieve. Once the guys playing winter sports join in there could be over 40 players at the first practice! Imagine just three years ago in 2010 we had just 11 guys at the first practice.
