Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven to host “Rally to Support Israel: Freedom from Fear” on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 7pm at Jewish Community Center
The Jewish community is coming together Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7pm at the JCC, 360 Amity Rd., Woodbridge, for a rally in solidarity with Israel. Doors will open at 6:30pm. People wishing to attend are encouraged to bring a photo I.D. and to allow ample time for traffic, parking and check-in.
Jewish Federation president Don Hendel said, “New Haven’s Jewish community stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Israel at this critical time. We applaud the remarks of President Obama, who said on Sunday, ‘We are fully supportive of Israel’s right to defend itself from missiles landing on people’s homes and workplaces and potentially killing civilians, and we will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself…. There’s no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens.’”
Community leaders and elected representatives, including U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and Senator-Elect Chris Murphy, will address rising concerns about the conflict and the importance of a strong friendship between the U.S and Israel. The community will hear messages from Israel--from citizens directly affected by the current situation.
The Jewish Federation is encouraging donations to an emergency relief fund to aid victims suffering physical, emotional and psychological injuries from the constant rocket attacks. 100% of all donations will go towards services and assistance on the ground for the several million Israelis who live within range of the hundreds of rockets fired from Gaza daily. The elderly and disabled are in need of immediate care, as are children, who require trauma counseling and respite care. The website www.jewishnewhaven.org has a link where donations can be made.
