Michael F. Saffir, MD Becomes 175th CSMS President
On Saturday, September 21, Michael F. Saffir, MD of Bethany was sworn in as the 175th President of the Connecticut State Medical Society. As he assumes the presidency, Dr. Saffir carries on the legacy of a distinguished tradition of leadership that has guided Connecticut physicians for more than two centuries.
Dr. Saffir is a Fairfield-based physiatrist board certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and in Pain Management in practice at the Orthopaedic Specialty Group. He is currently the Division Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Department of Medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport.
Long active in organized medicine, Dr. Saffir has served in a number of leadership roles at the Connecticut State Medical Society, including Speaker of the House, Vice Chair of Legislation, and Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Committee. He is a member of the State of Connecticut Workers Compensation Commission Medical Advisory Committee, where he helped to develop current attorney-physician guidelines, insurance-payer-physician guidelines, treatment guidelines, and an RVU-based fee schedule. He is also a member of the Connecticut Prescription Monitoring Program Advisory Panel.Dr. Saffir lives in Bethany with his wife and two children, along with their three Labrador retrievers.
