Baby Turtles Starting to Hatch After Mother Killed in Woodbridge

Turtle was crushed by a car, but a local vet was able to save its 56 eggs.

Dozens of new creatures are entering the world thanks to the help of the Woodbridge Animal Control and a local veterinarian.

Several baby turtles have hatched after their mom was hit by a car in Woodbridge earlier this summer. The mother was lost, but 56 eggs were saved, and after an incubation time of two months, 15 eggs have hatched and more are on the way, according to Jim Micinilio, co-owner of Countryside Veterinarian Hospital in Shelton.

Micinilio carefully extracted the eggs after the mother turtle was brought in by Woodbridge Animal Control and incubated the babies at a nearby vet hospital.

"A special word of thanks to my good friend Dr. Tom Milos of Shakespeare Veterinary Hospital in Stratford for helping us incubate the eggs,” said Micinilio.
