Fundraiser Will Help 'Warm Hearts Warm Homes'

Proceeds will benefit the Woodbridge fuel and food assistance program.

Woodbridge Human Services Commission is sponsoring a fundraiser, "Warm Hearts Warm Homes, an Evening of Wine and Hors d’oeuvres" on Sunday, June 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Stockbridge’s New England Bistro, 245 Amity Road Woodbridge. Entertainment and dessert are included.

Guests will have the opportunity to participate in a "Chinese Auction," entertainment will be provided by the Johnny I Band, and wine will be served courtesy of Amity Wine and Spirit Company of Woodbridge.

Proceeds will benefit the Town Fuel and Food Fund to assist income-eligible residents with emergency food and fuel when needed.

Human Services saw the need for $5,000 for the Fuel Bank and $2,000 for the Emergency Food Fund last winter. These funds provide Woodbridge residents with emergency assistance with their primary heating source and emergency food.

The town anticipates an increase in the number of families applying for emergency fuel and food assistance when the weather gets colder, since the impact of high oil prices can cause a hardship for families and senior citizens.

Year round, the emergency food closet holds non-perishable foods for residents in need. Human Services is always accepting donations of gift cards to Stop & Shop to accompany non-perishables so residents can buy meat, produce, dairy or other perishable items to round out a meal around the holiday seasons. Need for assistance was up 30 percent last winter.

Tickets for the event are $25 and can be reserved by calling Human Services at 203-389-3429 or emailing humanservices@ci.woodbridge.ct.us.
