Visit the Kellogg Environmental Center, Derby, on March 26, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. and meet Christine Thompson from Marcucio Gardens of Derby who will share the history of terrariums and instruct you on how to make your own to take home.

Terrariums allow people to raise tropical plants in temperate areas for year round enjoyment in homes or office space.

Bring your own glass or plastic container and Ms. Thompson will explain the design principals to create and care for an effective terrarium and help you create your own from provided materials.

The fee for the class is $10.00 per person and includes the cost of plants, soil, gravel, and decorative rocks.  You will select two plants for your terrarium.    If you do not wish to make a terrarium, but would like to attend the program, you may attend at no charge.

This program is designed for ages 12 and up.    Registration is required for all, to allow for preparation of materials and supplies.  Call the Kellogg Environmental Center at 203-734-2513, Tuesday through Saturday 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. to register or for more information.  The Kellogg Environmental Center is located at 500 Hawthorne Ave., Derby, CT.
