Orange Unemployment Up to 7.4%, Mirroring Statewide Trend

The unemployment rate rises statewide and locally.

July jobs figures showed a rise in unemployment throughout Connecticut, and Orange was not spared in the bad news. The town has the highest unemployment rate it's had all year, up to 7.4% from 6.5% in June.

“The phrase ‘worst economic downturn since the Great Depression’ is used so often, we’ve become immune to the words. Really hard,” said . “But let me be clear: we are making progress, and I have every confidence we’ll continue to make progress.”

In Connecticut, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 8.5 percent and the national rate is 8.3 percent.
