Recall: Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Maker

A small bushing in the machine can leach lead, the manufacturer says.

The makers of the Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Maker have issued a voluntary recall of the machine because a small bushing inside of it has the potential to leach lead.

Focus Products Group International, LLC says consumers should immediately stop using the Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Maker and contact the Focus Products Call Center for instructions on how to return the product and receive a replacement. The machines were sold under the following makes and model numbers:

  • West Bend
    • 65032
  • Back to Basics
    • CM300BK, CM300BKL, CM300BLSS, CM300BR, CM300BRBRL CM300BRL, CM300W

"To date, Focus Products has received no notice of any consumer complaints. However, the company’s independent testing revealed the potential problem, and out of an abundance of caution, the company voluntarily decided to recall the product," the company said in its recall notice.

"The only affected products are the Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Makers, makes and model numbers listed above.  The Cocoa Grande Hot Drink Maker is NOT affected by this recall.  The Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Makers shipped nationwide starting in 2004 through October 12, 2012. The affected products come in a variety of colors with transparent pitchers, and were sold primarily in the United States through various retailers such as Bed Bath & Beyond, through various e-retailers such as Amazon.com and through Focus Products’ online store."

Consumers who have a Cocoa Latte Hot Drink Maker should contact Focus Products’ Call Center at 1-888-943-5202. Further information will be available on Focus Products’ websites, www.focuspg.com and www.westbend.com.

5th Grade Annex Building

A disgrace to the children of our community - INDEED! I completely understand this is "a"Read More situation and was not expected and is being taken care off in the best possible way. However, i just dont get why it took so long to address the root cause of this situation. What does it take for the town, it's admisnistration to value the need for better facilities for our children. Why does it become such a daunting task when all of the assesments have come back suggesting the need to move the kids out of the annex buildings? Wake up town of Bethany, it is in our hands to provide our kids with better infrastructure. We should have done it yesterday, when the building commitee brings forth it's recommendations, it is our turn to di it RIGHT!

Heather, thank you for posting this article. My child's classroom is the one pictured above.Read More Everything you have stated is correct. Our children are basically walking on dried toilet water. The administration has a good heart but not a good response. They do the 'bear minimum' for the annex kids who have to deal with the daily torture of their environment.

Heather, VERY well-stated. You hit the nail on the head! These annex buildings ARE a disgrace.Read More They provide neither a healthy environment nor a secure environment for the students and teachers. Whether the Town decides to build another addition to the school or to utilize space at the Middle School (and I'm not so sure that's a great idea), something needs to be done as quickly as possible. If we can afford to replace our old Amity Rd. firehouse with a beautiful, modern edifice, we can afford to do the right thing for the kids.
