Attorney Norm Pattis Files a Grievance Against Himself, and Loses

The Bethany defense lawyer said he used the grievance to clear his reputation after being criticized in an editorial.

, who practices in , said he was so incensed at the suggestion by the editorial board of the Connecticut Law Tribune that he had violated his professional ethics that he filed a complaint with the Statewide Grievance Committee — against himself.

Writing about it in his column in the Law Tribune, Pattis said the editorial board had reacted to his use of his columns to respond to a whispering campaign by political operatives in Hartford trying to get a law passed to replace the Bridgeport school board with the governor’s appointees.

Pattis represented some of the school board members in court. He said the proposed legislation aimed to make his lawsuit moot before it could be ruled on by the state Supreme Court.

In his latest column, Pattis was happy to report that the Statewide Grievance Committee, which handles professional conduct complaints against lawyers, had exonerated him.
