Bethany and Woodbridge Get State Dollars for Projects

Grants will cover work at Bethany Town Hall and Woodbridge DPW

State Senator Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-Woodbridge) today announced the imminent release of state funding to assist with municipal projects in his district, one in Bethany and one in Woodbridge. A total of $83,549 will be shared by the towns.

Each item is listed on the agenda for Friday’s meeting of the State Bond Commission and is expected to receive final approval at that time. Senator Crisco said the grants are made available through an ongoing program administered by the state Department of Economic and Community Development; $58,549 will help Bethany make improvements at its Town Hall and $25,000 will help Woodbridge with costs associated with construction of a new public works garage. The town of Woodbridge has budgeted $5 million for construction of a new DPW complex.

“Upgrades planned at the Bethany Town Hall will make the building more energy efficient, so this investment of state capital will bring a return by reducing expensive utility costs – and then those savings can be passed along to town residents,” Crisco said. “This project is consistent with a long list of energy efficiency improvement programs at the state level, all designed to reduce consumption and help consumers save money.”

“In Woodbridge the Public Works Department has been operating without adequate garage space and storage facilities and this grant will help the town with construction costs for a new complex,” said Crisco. “I’m grateful to Governor Malloy and other members of the bond commission for approval of this funding, which directly benefits Woodbridge residents by helping defray the total cost of these municipal improvements.”
