Do-Over for Brady Dedication Vote

Board votes unanimously in favor of naming auditorium after superintendent

The Amity Board of Education's vote to name the high school auditorium in honor of of Schools John Brady at a March meeting hit a snag, but a unanimous vote taken at a meeting Monday evening sealed the deal.

At the March meeting, in favor of waiving a newly created policy regarding the naming of school properties. The board subsequently voted 7 to 6 in favor adding the item to the agenda that evening and the same 7 voted in favor of naming the auditorium in honor of Brady.

At Monday evening's meeting, board member Thomas Hurley brought to the attention of the board that that type of vote required support of two-thirds of the board, which was not the case.

After some brief discussion, the board voted  unanimously (for real this time) in favor of honoring Brady by naming the auditorium after him.

Brady said he was honored and humbled, and read a letter to the board in which he said that if at any time some other individual is worthy of the honor bestowed on him, the board has his full and unconditional support to rename the auditorium.
