Facebook Page is Dedicated to Eric Soufrine

Friends and supporters offer their prayers and condolences.

A Facebook page has been set up for Eric Soufrine and within minutes of its launch, dozens of people had posted messages of love and respect for the fallen soldier. 

Private First Class Eric Daniel Soufrine, 20, a Woodbridge resident, died of injuries sustained on June 14 when his vehicle hit an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) at a river crossing in Shewan Garrison Village, Afghanistan while on mounted patrol.

Soufrine, a 2009 graduate of Amity Regional High School, was a member of Battery B, 4th Battalion, 42d Field Artillery, out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

Each minute the outpouring of support and admiration grows for the young man many see as a local and  American hero:

"Eric you are and will always be a hero in my heart ♥ we will love you and miss you. But just know that you will never be forgotten. You sacrificed the most precious thing in this world for people you have and will never meet. That speaks great lengths. You were and are an amazing person. Thank you for your service and although you were taken from this world too early your spirit will forever live on in honor ♥ your family and friends are sadden and proud of you. Rest in Peace Eric and thank you"

"Eric, Thank you for your service and for giving it all you possibly could. My brother, also named Eric just came home from the war and I am so greatful for that. Your life was cut short but you will forever be a HERO. And to your loved ones I pray for peace. So go on Soldier and go to HEROS HEAVEN where you will forever be remembered. There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden for Eric Soufrine. He will be buried at the Mishkan Israel Cemetery. Updates will follow as they are received.
