How Does Redistricting Affect Woodbridge Voters?

A letter from the Registrars of Voters.

Thanks to earlier redistricting, this is the first time in ten years voters will be faced with two districts when they come to the polls. We received this letter from Jeanette Glicksman and Loredana Falcigno, Woodbridge Registrars of Voters.

To all Woodbridge voters:

This letter is to inform you of recent changes made to state Senate district boundaries that impact Woodbridge residents. Previously, Woodbridge had been wholly contained in the 17th Senatorial District. However, for the 2012 General Assembly election cycle and for the next ten years, new districts are in place andWoodbridge is split between the 17th and the 14th districts.

The southernmost portion of Woodbridge is now part of the 14th Senatorial District, which also includes Orange, Milford, and a portion of West Haven. A detailed map of Woodbridge streets affected by the redistricting plan is attached and will be posted at the Town Website: www.Woodbridgect.org. The Website also has a searchable street index.

Connecticut law requires all General Assembly districts to be reviewed and if necessary, reapportioned following each federal census. The 2010 U.S. Census showed that Connecticut’s population grew by nearly 5 percent to about 3.6 million people; the new distribution of that larger population prompted these newdistrict boundaries.
