Klarides, Sheehy and Crisco Talk Taxes with Residents

State budget and education also expected to be hot issues this legislative session.

The ever-increasing tax burden faced by Connecticut residents was among the topics discussed last week at office hours here organized by state Rep. Themis Klarides.

Klarides, who represents Woodbridge, Derby and Orange, was joined at Woodbridge Town Hall on Tuesday evening by First Selectman Edward Sheehy and state Sen. Joe Crisco.

About a dozen people turned out for the session with the trio of officials, and much of the discussion centered on property taxes and issues important to senior citizens.

Klarides held the event here the evening before the start of the 2012 legislative session, and the state lawmaker gave residents a rundown of the issues likely to dominate discussion at the Capitol over the next four months: the volatile state budget and a fresh legislative focus on education reform.

“Events like this are evidence that the people of this state are tuned in to what’s happening in Hartford, and that they’re acutely aware of how decisions made at the Capitol affect their daily lives,” Klarides said. “The people who send us to the legislature are the stakeholders, and we have to make sure to answer their questions and collect their ideas and concerns on a regular basis.”
