As stated in my letter to William Burt, Chairman of the Woodbridge Fire
Commission, dated August 31, 2012, I requested the Fire Commission to conduct a thorough review of the allegations concerning the Fire Marshal’s job performance, number of hours worked, likely overpayment, and maintenance of department information on his home computer.

I also sent a copy of this letter to the Board of Selectmen, Board of Finance, Fire Commission and Michael Cavanagh.

Under Connecticut State Statutes 29-297, the Fire Commission has the responsibility for hiring, supervising and disciplining the Fire Marshal.

The Fire Commission has made such a review of these allegations and voted to hold a termination hearing for the Fire Marshal on October 1, 2012. Fire Marshal Cavanagh has retained Counsel and will have an opportunity to present evidence on his behalf.

Very truly yours,
Edward Maum Sheehy
First Selectman
