Massaro Community Farm Honors Gerry Shaw

A letter from Woodbridge First Selectman Edward Maum Sheehy.

On September 1, 2012, the Massaro Community Farm, a non-profit organization in Town, chose to honor Gerry Shaw at their 2nd Annual Dinner for her contribution to the Town of Woodbridge.

I have known Gerry Shaw for thirty-three years as a private citizen, member of the Board of Selectmen, and for the past six and one half years as First Selectman. Gerry is the same in private as she is in public, always has a friendly and hopeful attitude.

She has been invaluable assistance to me and I know to my predecessors as well. Always willing to make that extra effort and take the extra time to get it right.

Gerry moved to Bethany with her husband Dick in 1965 where they raised their two daughters, Debbie and Julie. Gerry became very involved in the Bethany community, a founding memberof the Bethany Garden Club in 1967, and a very active member of the Christ Episcopal Churchof Bethany parish service as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, member of the Vestry for three years, serving on the Building and Grounds Maintenance Committees and volunteering countless hours whenever called upon.

She began working in the Woodbridge Town Hall thirty-seven years ago, and for the past thirty-three years she has served as the invaluable Executive Assistant to five Woodbridge First Selectmen. She has brought that same energy and dedication to her “other community” of Woodbridge. Her knowledge of and devotion to the Town of Woodbridge and its citizens is demonstrated every day. It is a rare Woodbridge resident that has not been greeted by that friendly voice when call the First Selectman’s office.
