Power Outages Cause Water Problems for Horse and Livestock Owners

Here's one solution to watering your farm animals until the power comes back on.

Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink. While Irene dumped gajillions of gallons of water on the Bethwood area, a lack of electricity is keeping people from accessing any of it as most residents have well water that is brought up using electric pumps. No generator equals no water. Many horse and livestock farms are struggling to keep their stock tanks filled.

There is, however, a solution – pool water. Bethwood Patch has called area pool water distributors to find out what they can do to help locals keep their animals hydrated.

According to Horse Commissioner Andy Leviton, Cora Transportation and Swimming Pool Water in Seymour will come fill stock tanks at a per-gallon price (not buckets, so have something large to store the water in.) Call Rich at 203-720-1259.

Huntington Pool Water will deliver 6,000 gallons for $285, if you have something to store it in. 203-929-8791.

Tom’s Pool Water (aka Pool Water Pat) will actually rent a 6,000-gallon trailer of water to be parked on your property for a week for $500. For farms that are close together, it might be a good idea to share a trailer and transport water in the back of a pick up truck (editors note: we find that large, flat-bottomed, covered garbage pails work well for this.) 203-879-2970 or 203-879-4321.
