Seventh Graders Celebrate the Last of Summer

Annual seventh grade picnic is next Thursday, Aug. 25

As this summer goes down as the speediest summer on record,  it's already time for seventh graders from Woodbridge and Bethany to get together and kick off the school year.

Woodbridge Youth Services and the Town on Bethany sponsor a picnic for the incoming seventh graders each year. The event is intended to be an ice breaker for kids who are about to go off to middle school with a whole lot of new faces.

"This program is great because it provides a first opportunity for the kids from Bethany to mingle with the kids from Woodbridge prior to the first day of school," says Jeannette Glicksman, Youth Evening Program Coordinator for the town of Woodbridge. "Friendships from various past sports teams and other extra curricular activities can be rekindled and introductions to mutual friends can be made."

She also sees it as a great opportunity for kids moving to private schools to stay connected to their peers in their home community.

"Our Youth Evening Program offers kids a place to be social in a safe environment as they move into their teen years. This program provides an opportunity once a month to socialize while playing games, munching snacks, listening to music and just hanging out with one another," Glicksman says. A schedule of events for the upcoming school year is attached.

The picnic takes place Thursday, Aug. 25 from 5 to  7 p.m. on the Woodbridge Green near the gazebo on Meetinghouse Lane. Entry fee is $5.00 and invitees are strictly seventh grade residents of Woodbridge and Bethany without exception.

The Youth Evening Program offers the giant slide, pizza, and games. Each program includes an interactive DJ, dancing and a free raffle. Director of Youth Services Nancy Pfund says it's a perfect chance to see your old friends or make new ones.

Amity dress code applies. Rain brings the party inside the Center Building Gym. Please call 203-389-3429 to register for this event.
