Update on Bethany Power Restorations

Slowly but surely it's coming back.

Several CL&P crews have been spotted throughout Bethany, but progress towards restoring power is still moving at a snail’s pace. As of 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, 92 percent of the town is still without electricity. According to Bethany First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski the power company is working on the town’s priority areas first, which include Laticrete and the schools.

“Rt. 63 is a backbone of their system,” Gorski said. “We’ve had some power restored there, and hopefully they will get the rest of 63 done quickly.”

Priorities, however, include wastewater treatment plants, which Bethany does not have. Crews have been diverted from less crucial areas to help get the treatment plants back online.

“CL&P has been very good about keeping in touch with us,” Gorski said. “Most of the frustration has been problems with communications coming from the ‘war room’ to the liaisons and their field people.”

Another problem, Gorkski said, has been that many of the work crews are coming in from other states have never seen the likes of our winding New England roads that were built following cow paths.

“It’s easy for them to get lost here,” she said.

Gorski said she will be speaking with CL&P later in the day and will have a clearer picture of the restoration process then. Keep checking in with Bethwood Patch as we will update regularly during the day.
