Video: What it Took to Get Each Horse Out of the Collapsed Barn

Fourteen stalls, fourteen different situations, and all of them safely removed

Groundhog Day was a lucky one this year for 14 Bethany Horses; first, the groundhog predicted an early spring, and second, the right group of well-trained people was ready and available to help get all of them safely out of a collapsed barn at Sungold Stable in Bethany. It took hard work, expertise and sometimes brute strength, but the care with which the responders addressed each unique situation was beautiful to behold.

Here is a video of exactly what it took to get just one horse out of the wreckage, the very last one. The woman in the pink baseball cap is veterinarian Stacey Golub who never once hesitated to crawl into the wreckage to sedate a horse to keep it, and all the workers around it, safe. Prepare to be impressed by everyone.

(Please excuse the shakiness of the video and all of the coughing in the background. Your "fearless editor" may be tough, but she is not infallible. Her allergies kicked in from the diesel fumes, triggering her asthma and really, who remembers to bring an inhaler at a time like that?)
