Whiz Kid: Ashley Blume

Ashley is the First Selecman's Top Choice

Amity Junior Ashley Blume was recognized yesterday afternoon as the recipient of the Fourteenth Annual First Selectman’s Youth Award. A selection committee of the Woodbridge Youth Advisory Board selected Ashley from a group of five very strong candidates. She was honored at the Human Services Volunteer Tea, which was attended by other volunteers from the community who were also honored for their dedication and members of the board of selectmen.

Ashley was presented with a plaque by First Selectman Edward Sheehy, a $200 savings bond generously donated by NewAlliance Bank and a proclamation signed by state lawmakers.

Ashley is honored for her dedication to her school, the Town of Woodbridge, and the larger community. At school, she is a positive role model with a positive outlook. She serves as the vice-president of the Community Action Council, a Link Crew leader and a peer tutor. She is currently serving on the Woodbridge Youth Advisory Board and the Friends Junior Board at Yale-New Haven Hospital where she volunteers her time. Ashley’s commitment to others also includes her involvement in the program, “Text You Later,” as well as organizations such as the March of Dimes, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and the Chordoma Foundation.
