Woodbridge Resident Becomes Westport Art Exec

Marni Smith Katz, formerly of the Ezra Academy will be working at the Westport Arts Center now.

The Westport Arts Center named Marni Smith Katz of Woodbridge as development director, effective August 1. Katz brings to WAC 10 years of experience in development and admissions for an independent school and six years of service as a litigation attorney.

As the Westport Arts Center’s development director, a full-time position, Katz will be responsible for managing and increasing giving; producing high quality special events, cultivating new and existing supporters and prospective donors; developing membership; and managing grants.

“I am delighted to join the team at the Westport Arts Center,” said Smith Katz. “I have been impressed by the Westport Arts Center's initiatives to create meaningful art experiences and enrich the community. I look forward to collaborating with Peter and the board to develop even greater support for WAC's outstanding programs.”

WAC executive director Peter Van Heerden said in press release that, "WAC is very excited to hand the development reigns to Marni. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of fundraising and development. Marni is coming on board at a stage in which WAC is ready to expand and grow and we feel confident that Marni can and will help us reach our development goals moving forward.”

Since 2000, Katz worked at , first as director of development and later as director of admissions. As Director of development, she devised and implemented all fundraising initiatives, including marketing of campaigns, events and sponsorships, and cultivating and maintaining new and existing donor relationships. Previously, Katz was an attorney with Green and Gross, P.C. in Bridgeport.

Katz received a J.D. from The University of Connecticut School of Law, Hartford, and a B.A. in politics, cum laude, with a minor in art history, from Brandeis University.

The Westport Arts Center is a visual and performing arts organization dedicated to creating arts experiences that enrich the lives of area residents and the entire community.
