Woodbridge Resident Killed in Action Remembered During Veteran's Day Ceremony

Woodbridge remembers all who served in the armed forces in emotional ceremony

Former Woodbridge resident Eric Soufrine was a soldier who never had the chance to become a veteran. His life was cut short in Afghanistan June 14, but his memory was honored at the town's Veteran's Day ceremony held Friday morning. His family sat in the front row, remembering the young man they miss and loved as dozens gathered behind them, remembering all who have served our country.

A permanent plaque honoring Soufrine was unveiled in a garden in front of the flags at the VFW Memorial that fly high over the municipal offices. A bench nearby, donated by an anonymous family friend, also now permantly holds the fallen American soldier's name.

The ceremony, led by Town Administrator and Army Veteran Joseph Hellauer, included a letter from a family member of Eric Soufrine, which Hellauer read aloud (see attached video). The event also featured comments by local officials and veterans, ringing of the church bell, singing of the National Anthem and God Bless America and a three-gun salute by members of the police department.

Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and the Beecher Road School chorus and marching band also took part in the ceremony as Woodbridge Superintendent Guy Stella proudly looked on.

We at Bethwood Patch believe there is some truth to the saying, 'A picture is worth 1,000 words,' so please enjoy a sampling in photos and video of today's moving event.
