Woodbridge Takes Over Derby's Animal Control Operations
Woodbridge animal control officers will shelter strays and investigate animal cruelty reports in Derby under the new agreement.
Concluding after Derby abruptly shut down its animal shelter amid charges of animal neglect, Animal Control has formally taken over Derby animal control operations.
An article by the Valley Independent Sentinel said the Derby Board of Aldermen approved the agreement, in which Derby pays Woodbridge $42,000 a year for animal control services.
Derby officials have not decided if the aging Derby animal shelter should eventually be renovated and reopened.

Under the agreement, Derby police will still respond to many animal control calls, but Woodbridge officers will handle reports of stray, sick or injured animals, and investigate cases of animal cruelty or neglect.
