ParaPhysics: A New Science of the Supernatural

History is filled with incredible examples of breakthroughs that surpass what was once considered scientifically impossible. From the idea that our planet was not the center of the universe, to the concept of exploring space, these now solidly accepted facts were not so easily received. In fact, when these theories were first presented, those daring to suggest them found themselves in danger of losing everything – including their lives! In the past those proposing theories considered impossible by the present science were considered heretics… today we just call them nuts. But if there’s one thing we should learn from this part of our past it is that unconventional ideas of today may be the firm way of thinking for tomorrow.      

Some who call themselves hardened scientists are quick to dismiss any notion of the theories presented by paranormal researchers as blasphemy, crazy talk, or their favorite term of all, “pseudoscience.” Taking such a dismissive stance on the paranormal is reflective of a scientific past rooted in the fear of unconventional thinking, rather than the potential of increased understanding and even perhaps new methods of belief. But there is one area of science which not only embraces the possibility that paranormal phenomena exists, but is showing more and more support for theories  once said to be paranormal.

That field is Quantum Physics, and some of the research being carried out by scientists involved has some unusually-paranormal rings to it. For example, our bodies may be constantly emitting energy fields which have particular colors to them which change with our mood, environment, and other factors. Our brains and bodies communicate with one another beyond what we think of as the normal senses. And, my two favorite ones: Time and space may not be as linear as we thought, so it may be possible that glimpses of past or future events, alternative dimensions, or perhaps even instant travel across universally-distant points may occur all around us. All of us have some non-physical energy to our existence which may exist long after our physical death, so in short our energies may linger around even after we’re “gone.”

Wait… what? Did he just talk about auras, sixth-sense, space-time travel, and ghosts? Stop scratching your head, you didn’t read that wrong.

Quantum Physics is supportive of possibilities that have long-since been isolated to the realm of paranormal claims and that wonderful title of pseudoscience. Whether talking about how one person’s energy can help heal another’s, or how our minds are far more powerful and capable than we think, or how it may be possible that beings from another world (or another dimension) are actually among us, the list of topics is a lengthy one and is filled with numerous other paranormal theories. You see, it’s not that there haven’t been significant scientific theories to back paranormal beliefs, it’s more that the existence of things deemed paranormal challenge conventional laws of science, and as innovative and advancing as science is, it is also sometimes one of the slowest things to change.

Today there is a lot of attention both inside and outside of the scientific community being given to aspects of Quantum Physics. And some of the discoveries that have been made, as well as ones that are on the horizon will completely change the way we think of the world around us, and especially that which we have categorized as pseudoscience. Quantum Physics adds yet another scientific field that can be coupled with paranormal research in current investigations, and where psychological principals were applied to paranormal claims and became the field of Parapsychology, Quantum Physics theories can be combined with paranormal to create a sort of “Parapysics” approach. These developing fields are indeed making for a true science of the supernatural!
