Music and Yoga classes for Children with Special Needs

Music classes for children with Special Needs and yoga classes for children with Special Needs

We wanted to spread the word about 2 new classes that we are offering on our schedule in January for children with Special Needs.  Music for children with special needs to be held on Sundays at 10:30 taught by Rebecca Geary,  and a Yoga class for children with Special Needs that will be held on Weds from 4:15pm to 5pm at our Musical Folk studio - 24 Selden St. Woodbridge.  More details are posted on our website at www.MusicalFolk.com.

These classes are designed especially for children with Special needs and will adopt developmentally appropriate activites that support and respect the learning styles of all participants.  Everyone is encouraged to participate at their own developmental level.

Here's some more info regarding the music class:

At Music Together, music is learned through developmentally appropriate activities that support and respect the learning styles of all participants. Everyone is encouraged to participate at their own developmental level. You and your children will become part of a community of families sharing songs, instrument play, and movement activities in a relaxed, non-performance-oriented setting. In addition to ten weeks of fun, musically rich classes, you will receive two copies of this semester’s recording and an illustrated songbook so you can continue the family music-making at home.

Our Special Needs classes are for children with disabilities ages birth through 7. You are encouraged to enroll siblings as well, and sibling discounts apply. To ensure the best experience for everyone, the maximum enrollment is 6 families per class, so register quickly as spaces are very limited.

This class will be taught by Rebecca (Becky) Geary.  Rebecca is a certified Music Together teacher and a CT Certified music teacher K-12 & parent of a child on the autism spectrum.

And here's some more details re: the Yoga class for children with speical needs:

Lani's integrated approach addresses the physical, social-emotional and learning strengths and challenges of the whole child. The FOJY yoga classes support a child's natural development & positive sense of self in a gentle, safe and fun environment.

5th Grade Annex Building

A disgrace to the children of our community - INDEED! I completely understand this is "a"Read More situation and was not expected and is being taken care off in the best possible way. However, i just dont get why it took so long to address the root cause of this situation. What does it take for the town, it's admisnistration to value the need for better facilities for our children. Why does it become such a daunting task when all of the assesments have come back suggesting the need to move the kids out of the annex buildings? Wake up town of Bethany, it is in our hands to provide our kids with better infrastructure. We should have done it yesterday, when the building commitee brings forth it's recommendations, it is our turn to di it RIGHT!

Heather, thank you for posting this article. My child's classroom is the one pictured above.Read More Everything you have stated is correct. Our children are basically walking on dried toilet water. The administration has a good heart but not a good response. They do the 'bear minimum' for the annex kids who have to deal with the daily torture of their environment.

Heather, VERY well-stated. You hit the nail on the head! These annex buildings ARE a disgrace.Read More They provide neither a healthy environment nor a secure environment for the students and teachers. Whether the Town decides to build another addition to the school or to utilize space at the Middle School (and I'm not so sure that's a great idea), something needs to be done as quickly as possible. If we can afford to replace our old Amity Rd. firehouse with a beautiful, modern edifice, we can afford to do the right thing for the kids.
