Bountiful Harvest, Service Days and Movie at the Farm!

The heavy rains of June and recent milder temperatures have yielded bountiful produce for our CSA members and at the Edgewood Farmer's Market! This means lots of those veggies patient gardeners wait all summer for: eggplant, peppers, zucchini, and of course, tomatoes, tomatoes, and more tomatoes!! What will you do with your weekly harvest? Check out some of our recipe suggestions

Also, this week we are joined by incoming Yale Forestry School freshmen, who are camping out at the farm as part of the Harvest pre-orientation program. This is the third year that we have hosted a Harvest trip, collaborating to provide a unique opportunity for freshmen to enjoy the outdoors, learn about sustainable agriculture in Connecticut, and make friends, before the start of on-campus orientation and classes at Yale. The group will take part in a wide range of farm tasks this week, including harvest for this week's distribution, planting, seeding, weeding, and of course, eating some of the produce they pick. If you see these students at the farm, please extend them a warm welcome!

If you're itching to stretch your legs and get your hands a little dirty, join us this Thursday (8/22 from 2-5pm) or next Saturday (8/31 from 9am-12pm) as we gather volunteer hands for Service Days, tending to some much needed projects before our annual Dinner on the Farm and Family Fun Days! Dress appropriately, bring a water bottle and join us as we prepare some new planting areas, pull some weeds, harvest in the learning garden. We especially need some strong arms to move the Maypole as we make room for the tent for upcoming events. But don't fear, we'll put it back up again next Spring! Take a break from the computer or TV screen and visit with our chickens and walk the nature trail while you're out. We would not be here without our gracious volunteers, so come out and join us for some fun on the farm!

Lastly, this Friday (8/23) we'll be holding our first ever outdoor screening of 'We Bought a Zoo' at the farm! Bring a picnic or just a blanket and drop by to join us for this FREE event. Some light snacks will be served. Screening starts at 8pm.
