CT Trust for Historic Preservation Awards Massaro Barn Grant

Late last month, we were excited to receive notification that Massaro Community Farm has been awarded a matching grant for funds to stabilize the 1931 Stone Barn at the farm. The award of $5,000 was made by the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation as part of its 2013 Barn Grant program, which makes funds available for assessment and stabilization of historic structures, with help from the CT General Assembly.

The Stone Barn is the only structure on the farm original to the Massaro family that has not been rehabilitated to date. This matching grant will allow us to replace the roof and windows of the Stone Barn so that it can be used to store small farm implements and other supplies. The renovation of the Stone Barn will improve the overall appearance of the farm, and substantially restore the structure to its original appearance.

Although we have a year to utilize the matching funds, the farm expects the renovations to be completed by the end of 2013.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
