Bethany Teacher of the Year

The Bethany Public School District is pleased to announce that Andrea Hubbard was recently selected as the District’s 2013 - 2014 Teacher of the Year.  This prestigious award is given for dedication to teaching, commitment to students, and use of innovative instructional methods.

Andrea (DiGennaro) Hubbard is a lifelong resident of Bethany and is honored to be able to serve the town that is near to her heart. She has been employed by Bethany Community School for fourteen years. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Physical Education from Southern Connecticut State University.  After earning her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Special Education from SCSU, she became the Pre K Special Education teacher.  Currently, Mrs. Hubbard is helping students understand the importance of a healthy active lifestyle as the physical education teacher.  Last year, Mrs. Hubbard earned her Sixth Year Certificate in Educational Leadership from SCSU.

Mrs. Hubbard’s greatest reward is hearing her students make connections between her physical education classroom and experiences they have had on their own during physical activity.  “I am very excited when students tell me they made their heart happy over the weekend or afterschool because of some type of exercise or event they had the opportunity to participate in.”  Andrea is always creating opportunities for students to further develop their understanding of English Language Arts, Math and Science, while participating in physical education class.

Andrea continues to reside in Bethany with her husband and daughter.

Mrs. Hubbard will participate in the Connecticut State Teacher of the Year process and will receive a State Department of Education award recognizing her District Teacher of the Year accomplishment on November 19, 2013 at the Bushnell in Hartford
