Bold as Brass Burglary Suspect Caught in the Basement with the Pipes

New Haven man charged with stealing copper fittings and pipes while family was at home; found to have warrants from both Waterbury and the State Police

Feb. 14 at 5:49 a.m. the Woodbridge Police Department was contacted by Litchfield Turnpike residents who heard suspicious noises coming from the first floor of their house. 

 Police responded and found that a rear door had been forcibly entered after its lock was removed. They searched the premisis and found a man, Eric Manley, age 43, of 342 Valley St., New Haven,  hiding in the basement. Manley was taken into custody. Upon further investigation police discovered the suspect had been stealing copper pipes and fittings from the furnace and basement area of the house.    

Manley was charged with First Degree Burglary, Sixth Degree Larceny , and Second Degree Criminal Mischief. Manley was also found to be wanted on outstanding arrest warrants from both the CT State Police and the Waterbury Parole Fugitive Unit.Manley was detained for the Woodbridge charges on a $25,000 bond, and was subsequently transported to New Haven Superior Court for arraignment.
