Six Students Detained on Drug Charges at Amity High Last Week

Two separate instances net a half-dozen suspected drug offenders at high school.

When one student showed up at Amity Regional High School last Friday reeking of marijuana, it caused a chain reaction that ended with five juveniles rounded up on various drug charges. At 8 a.m. on Dec. 2 the security guard noticed the odor of burnt marijuana on a student when he arrived for the day. The 15-year old white male from Bethany was questioned and through checking text messages on his cell phone it was discovered who had sold him the marijuana. The dominos began to tumble, and soon there were four more suspects.

The first student was given a juvenile summons and charged with Possession. Student number two, a 15-year old white male from Orange, was given a juvenile summons and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell. Student number three, 15, a white male from Orange, was given a juvenile summons and charged with Conspiracy to Possess Marijuana. Student number four, 15, an Asian male from Orange, was given a juvenile summons and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell. Student number five, 16, a white male from Woodbridge, was charge with Possession of Marijuana.

All five were released to their parents on a Promise to Appear and given court dates of Dec. 12.
