Two Amity Students Arrested on Drug Charges

Woodbridge police say school security observed a drug transaction on school grounds.

Two Amity High School students — a 17-year-old and and an 18-year-old — were arrested in relation to an alleged drug transaction on school grounds.

In a report released late last week, Woodbridge Police said the arrests stem from an incident that took place at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Jan. 11, when school security observed two students acting suspicious. "Both students were stopped and one was found to be in possession of prescription narcotics, which he had just purchased from the other student," police said.

The 17-year-old, whose named was not released, was charged with possession of narcotics and was scheduled to appear in juvenile court on Jan. 25.

The 18-year-old, Christopher Malerba of Bethany, was arrested on Jan. 30 on an outstanding warrant charging him with sale of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia. During the alleged transaction, Malerba was found to be in possession of a marijuana smoking pipe, police said.

He was released on a $500 bond and was scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Feb. 8.
