Woodbridge Fire and Police Departments Team for Blood Drive

Red Cross sponsored blood drive Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 5:45 p.m.

Every day, members of the Woodbridge Police and Fire Departments team forces to get a job done. Next week, they're taking their efforts one step further and are joint-hosting an American Red Cross blood drive.

It's a little known fact that currently only three out of every 100 people in America donate blood. It's simply not enough to meet the demand right here in our own community. According to the American Red Cross, every minute of every day, someone needs blood. That blood can only come from a volunteer donor who makes the choice to donate.

When you make a blood donation, according to the Red Cross, you join a very select group.

The Fire Department and Police Departments of Woodbridge are encouraging more local residents to become part of this very select group and have scheduled a Blood Drive Tuesday, Aug. 16 from 1-5:45 p.m. at the Woodbridge Fire House.

"We are responding to a request from the Red Cross," says Fire Chief Sean Rowland. "According to the Red Cross, the community blood supply of all blood types is critically low.  We are honored to help alleviate the situation by co-hosting a blood drive with our colleagues in the Woodbridge Police Department."

'“Badges for Blood” is another way the Fire and Police Departments work together for the good of our community," Rowland says.

Those who make the choice to donate at the Woodbridge drive will be given a coupon for a free box of chocolate dipped fruit from Edible Arrangements. Donors will also be given the standard Keebler cookie after their service is complete. For appointments and more information, call 1-800-733-2767 or log on to www.redcrossblood.org.
