Are You Registered to Vote in the August Primaries?

As Republicans and Democrats gear up for their nominating conventions, the Connecticut Secretary of State is reminding residents that the deadline for transferring party affiliation in order to vote in the August primaries is May 12.

If you are not yet registered to vote, or you want to change your party affiliation, you can do so online, via the Secretary of State website. You will need your driver’s license number to register online.

You can also print a registration form online, complete it and return it to your local Registrar of Voters office. Download that form here. 

Both Republicans and Democrats are holding their nominating conventions beginning May 16. Republicans will be at Mohegan Sun and Democrats are gathering at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

While Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, the first term incumbent, is the presumed nominee for Democrats, a crowded field of Republican challengers has left a degree of uncertainty on how things will shake out for the GOP.

Tom Foley, the Greenwich Republican who narrowly lost to Malloy in 2010, is leading the field, according to the latest Quinnipiac Poll. State Sen. Minority Leader John McKinney and Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton are trailing Foley, but they've closed some of the gap that another QU Poll had uncovered a few months ago.

Foley also topped the list of GOP gubernatorial candidates raising the most funds in the first quarter of 2014, based on campaign financing reports. He did not attend a Republican debate in February.
