Horse Crossing Signs, Post Office News and Traffic Concerns in Bethany

Bethany Board of Selectmen Meeting Oct. 11, 2011

  • The board voted to give First Selectman Derrylyn Gorski the authority to sign paperwork to apply for a credit card in the name of the town. According to Gorski, many situations have come up where the town cannot pay with a check or cash, such as renewing the website domain name and making online purchases.
  • The board of selectmen unanimously voted against closing the Amity post office, as had the Woodbridge Board of Selectmen before them. If it were closed, the post office for the Amity area, where packages would be picked up, etc., would become Brewery Street in New Haven. The board urges residents who oppose the closing of the Amity branch to write to:

Kim Peters, District Manager, CT Valley District

141 Weston Street

  • The family involved in the recent horse accident in Bethany has asked that more "Caution: Horse Crossing" signs be installed at strategic areas in town. Gorski said she spoke with the town’s horse commissioner, Andy Leviton, to find out where signage is needed. The board approved ordering as many signs as are needed.
  • Public Works Director Al Green has requested that, due to an accident near the airport grounds, the tag sale and farmers market be moved further back from the road. The board agreed that traffic was a problem and aside from relocating the events, there might be other ways to rectify the situation, such as changing the entrance used by patrons.
