Obama Leads in CT Despite Fundraising Gap

Mitt Romney raises more money than the president throughout Connecticut.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney has President Barack Obama beat when it comes to fundraising in Connecticut – at least for now.

Polls show that Obama maintains a lead in Connecticut, and a fundraiser could push Obama ahead when it comes to money raised in the state.

Romney raised $4.8 million from Connecticut residents so far compared to Obama’s $2.8 million, according to the Associated Press. A on Monday could net Obama $2 million when the president meets with Hollywood celebrities and donors willing to shell out $35,000.

Nationally, Romney outraised Obama by $101 million to $75 million, according to the LA Times

A June poll from Quinnipiac University shows Obama leading Romney by a 50 - 38 margin. Ronald Reagan in 1988 was the last Republican presidential candidate to carry the state.

Black Monday in 1987 led to a recession that lasted into 1992. Bush Sr was President (1989-1993) and the recession led to Clinton's election. So in 1988 everybody wasn't working, and it was George H.W. Bush that ran for President that year.
