Round 2 for Green Haven Proposal

One Bethany resident is vowing to fight Green Haven's zoning application with everything he's got.

"Forgive me if I do not greet with open arms the Green Haven Cohousing project’s attempt to change zoning regulations for the Town of Bethany," writes Norm Pattis, in a blog posted on Patc. "The project proposal is, in fact, little more than a Trojan Horse that would, if approved, destroy what remains of Bethany’s rural character."

While Pattis is not alone in his disapproval of Green Haven's proposal to create a new zone called an Open Space Housing District, there are residents who support the application.

Brenda Caldwell, a Bethany resident who is a member of Green Haven, wrote in a comment on a previous Patch article: 

"We think that this floating zone, which is consistent with Bethany’s Plan for Conservation and Development, is a positive, forward-thinking addition to the town’s zoning rules. It is a tool that our Planning and Zoning Commission can use to shape the character and impact of future development on large parcels of vulnerable farmland and forest."

"The project that we are planning is an example of how the Open Space Housing District zone can be used to turn a deteriorated, forgotten farm into a vibrant productive farm again."

Residents on both sides will once again have an opportunity to learn more about the application and voice their thoughts at a public hearing on Wednesday, April 17. It will begain at 7:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Bethany Town Hall.
