Woodbridge Finance Board Presents Budget with 2.7% Increase
While the town's contribution to Amity budget decreases under the proposal, police and fire departments see an increase.
A 2.7% increase over the current fiscal year's budget -- that's the spending plan presented by the Woodbridge Board of Finance.
The proposal was met with few questions and brief conversation in a time where taxpayers in neighboring towns are wondering how they'll fund substantial tax increases.
"A large part of keeping this 2.7% increase is our part of the Amity budget," said Finance Board Chairman Matthew Giglietti during a meeting last night.

Amity's dependency on Woodbridge tax dollars is decreasing 2.69% (almost $350,000) in the upcoming school year due to the decreased number of Amity students coming from Woodbridge. Orange, on the other hand, will see a significant increase of more than $1 million as enrollment from that town increases.
The larger increases in proposed spending in the operating budget are at the , where contractual obligations (aka salaries and health insurance costs) call for a 4.9% increase. The also drives that increase.

The fire department's proposed operating budget is up 7.47%, mostly due to a $13,000 data processing system the department has requested to purchase.
"Coming into this, after last year's budget, I was expecting a 5% increase," says Giglietti.
He anticipates the increase will be even lower by the preliminary budget hearing on April 23.
