Woodbridge First Selectman Sheehy Dies Suddenly

Edward Maum Sheehy started a career of public service in Woodbridge in 1979.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman gave remarks on Sheehy's sudden passing in a joint statement released Tuesday afternoon.

"Ed truly loved the town of Woodbridge and its people, many of whom he became close friends with over the years and whose lives he touched in so many ways," Malloy said. "Through his work as a civic leader, he dedicated himself to improving his community. His sudden passing comes with great sadness, and my condolences go out to his wife, Eleanor, and the rest of his family and friends."

"Although he was taken from us much too soon, Ed had accomplished an enormous amount for his beloved town of Woodbridge and was an example of what it means to be a true community leader," Wyman said. "I hope that brings some comfort to his family, friends and those he served with such dignity and dedication."

Woodbridge First Selectman Edward Maum Sheehy has died.

"With profound sadness the town of Woodbridge announces the sudden passing of First Selectman Edward Maum Sheehy," reads a statement from Town Hall. "Information about funeral arrangements will be forth coming. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sheehy family at this difficult time."

Sheehy moved to Woodbridge with his wife, Ellie, in 1975 and raised four children in the Woodbridge public school system, according to his biography on the Woodbridge CT Democrats' website.

He was first elected to the Woodbridge Board of Selectman in 1979. Sheehy served as First Selectman since 2006 and was the incumbent candidate for the May municipal election.
