Amity Golf Defeats Shelton

Spartans lock up a solid win, 152-164.

For the second time in two weeks, the Amity golf team defeated Southern Connecticut Conference—Housatonic Division rival, Shelton. The first time they met, Coach George Taylor’s Spartans downed the Gaels 316-347 in an 18 hole match at the Country Club of Woodbridge. Last week, the two Housy rivals met again—this time in a nine-hole match at the Brownson Country Club in Shelton. While the site was different for the second match, the results were the same.  Amity remained undefeated (6-0, 3-0) by defeating the 4-4, 2-3 Gaels 152-164.

Alex Marieb was the medalist as he shot a 36. Brent Marieb carded a 38 while Keating Seymour and Kyle Barone fired identical scores of 39. Shelton’s top scorer was Bryan Fitzgerald, who shot a 38.

“This was a good win,” said Taylor. “Each one of our top four guys played well. A few of our guys had played that course before, but most of our guys were new to it. It is a short par-34 course. It’s always nice when you win on somebody else’s course. Our scores were between 36-39 while Shelton’s scores ranged from 38-44. We beat them by 12 strokes, which comes out to three strokes per man.”
