Amity Regional High School's Jenny Liu

Meet Patch's first Amity Whiz Kid, Jenny Liu, who is on a path to greatness

Dr. Suess must have been thinking of Amity High School Senior Jenny Liu when he wrote Oh, The Places You'll Go!

Jenny is not even out of high school yet and she's going places. In May, she's going to Washington, D.C.,  where she'll try to turn her 'finalist' status into a 'winner' at the INTEL Science Talent Search. Jenny is one of the 40 elite students out of 1,744 applicants in the country selected as a 2011 finalist with her project "Emotional Models Improve Human-Robot Interactions."

Even if she's not a winner, the fact that she 'accomplished the level she's attained is highly significant for Jenny and her teachers,' according to Amity Superintendent John Brady.

Wait. You don't think her accomplishements end with science, do you? She is also a talented violinist. She won third place in the Greater Bridgeport Symphonies Young Instrumentalists competition last year. The year before, she won first place in the Musical Club of Hartford's high school competition, and prior to that, she  won the Greater New Haven Youth Orchestra (GNHCO) Concerto Competition and was featured as a soloist with the orchestra in 2006. She is refered to as a prodigy, a role model and, simply, a blessing.

Key to Awesomeness: Jenny is one of those rare students that teachers actually thank parents for sharing with them. Debbie Day, Jenny's science research teacher sums Jenny's awesomeness up the best: "She's a rare gem. She's bright, energetic and capable. Her accomplishments have paved the way for future students and she's leaving some very large shoes to fill."
