Not Retiring: Amity Superintendent Opts to Stay

The following is a press release submitted by the Amity Region 5 School District.

Dr. John Brady, superintendent of the Amity Region 5 School District, will continue to serve as the District’s superintendent of schools.  At the November 14, 2011 meeting of the Board of Education, Dr. Brady had unexpectedly announced his intention to retire at the end of the 2011-2012 school year.

Dr. Brady’s decision to retire was made after his wife and companion of 38 years, Jeannine, contracted a rare form of cancer.  Sadly, after a courageous battle, Jeannine Brady passed away on April 25. With encouragement from members of the Board of Education and town officials in Bethany, Orange, and Woodbridge, Dr. Brady reconsidered his decision to retire in the light of his wife’s death.

Bill Blake, chairman of the Amity Board of Education, announced the change in plans today.  Blake stated that all of the Board’s members were in agreement in the desire for Dr. Brady to remain in his position, if he saw fit to do so.

“Dr. Brady has been an outstanding leader for the Amity School District, and has restored the community’s faith and pride in our schools.  We all grieve with Dr. Brady for the loss of Jeannine, and regret that his plans to spend more time with her did not come to pass.  Given these difficult circumstances, we all look forward to Dr. Brady continuing to be a vital part of our school community.”
