Field Hockey Update: 9-0 loss to Guilford

Coach Sara Hale: ""Guilford has a pretty good team. Their offensive line is very tough and hard to defend against."

Outshot 32-5 the Amity field hockey team was blanked by Guilford 9-0 Thursday afternoon in Woodbridge. The 1-2-1 Indians scored four goals in the first half. Riley Smith recorded a three goal hat trick while Ali Tucker added a pair of scores and added an assist. Lia Bruneau chipped in with a goal and two assists. Amity goalie Hannah Bercovici had a busy afternoon as she was called on to make 16 saves. Bruneau, her Guilford counterpart, had to stop only four shots.

The loss leveled the Lady Spartans’ record at 1-1.

Amity is back in action on Monday when it visits Sacred Heart in a Southern Connecticut Conference match that gets underway at 3:45 p.m.

According to Coach Sara Hale, “Guilford has a pretty good team. Their offensive line is very tough and hard to defend against. We had a hard time attacking. Our midfield transition game from 25-yard line to 25-yard line needs work. We never got our offense going. In addition, the shots we took were not hard shots.”

Amity traveled to Danbury on Friday and was blanked by the Hatters 6-0.

“We played on their turf field and we are not a turf team. In addition, our goalie (Bercovici) was sick. Her absence made a big difference in the game,” Hale said. “We didn’t have much offense either. We weren’t able to capitalize on the scoring opportunities that we did have. We need to make things happen, get our offense going and take a lot more quality shots. Unfortunately, we couldn’t put anything together against Danbury.”

Hale did laud the play of midfielder Allie Kramer, whom she felt moved the ball well and constantly gave 100%.

Lauren Kelly filled in for Bercovici in goal.
