Mixed Results For Amity District 5 CMT Scores

Math scores for seventh and eighth graders dropped, while some gains were made.

The 2011 results from the Connecticut Mastery Tests showed decreases in every category for seventh graders, and the exact opposite for eighth graders.

The seventh graders at Bethany and Orange Middle Schools saw declines in math, reading and writing.Eighth graders, however, saw increases across the board. The biggest improvements came in reading and writing.

The CMT, taken annually by more than 240,000 public school students in grades 3 through 8, consists of seven hours of testing in math, reading, writing, and — at some levels — science.

Students are graded on a scale of 1 ("below basic") to 5 ("advanced") on each section. Though the test is not pass/fail, Connecticut sets a goal range and a proficiency level for each grade and subject.
