Upon Retirement, A Look At Brady's Lasting Legacy

While the search continues for a new superintendent of the Amity Regional School District, the outgoing superintendent is reflecting on his nearly 10-year tenure.

In an interview with the Milford-Orange Bulletin, John Brady reflects on his time in Amity, during which the district has experienced a turnaround on many fronts, including its finances.

The Springfield, Mass.-native came to the district from Westport in 2004. He retires June 30.

The Bulletin quotes Woodbridge Board of Finance Chairman Matt Giglietti as saying, “(Brady’s) turned it back into what I consider one of the top school districts in the state.”

As a testament to Brady's lasting legacy and impact in the district, in April the Board of Education voted unanimously to name the high school auditorium after him.

When that vote was cast, Board member James Stirling said, "It is my opinion normally not to name buildings and facilities after employees. But every encounter I have had with Dr. Brady has raised the bar higher regarding his personal and professional sense of excellence."

And so with big shoes to fill, the district has been trying to gather as much input from the community about the qualities they'd like in the next superintendent.

During a forum in January, Board of Education Chairman Bill Blake said, "The board is dedicated to getting community input to find a superintendent with the strength, character and leadership abilities we'd all like to see."

"We're trying to make as many avenues available to the community as possible for them to voice what qualities they'd like to see in a new superintendent to serve our schools for the next few years," he added.
