Amity Boys Soccer Blanks Sheehan 3-0

Coach Mike Marchitto: "I think we overestimated ourselves and disrespected Sheehan by not playing our best."

While pleased that his team blanked Sheehan 3-0 last Friday and improved its Southern Connecticut Conference record to 2-2-3, Amity boys soccer Coach Mike Marchitto was quite displeased with how his team played against the Titans.

He said, “We won, but we didn’t play well. We were a totally different team than we were when we played Shelton. We were very sloppy against Sheehan. I think we overestimated ourselves and disrespected Sheehan by not playing our best.”

Eliott DeMelier opened the scoring with 10 minutes, 28 second gone in the game. The ball was driven into the corner where Ricky Mayer beat the defense and toed a perfectly placed cross to DeMelier, who tapped the ball by Titan netminder, Dom Izzo.

Still leading 1-0, Amity added a pair of second half scores. At 49:50 a deflected shot came to Sean Beaulieu in front of the goal and he put it home.

“Sean was in the right place at the right time to score a nice unassisted goal,” Marchitto said.

Amity’s final goal, which was recorded at 65:29, came off a corner kick by Jeremy Conn. He lofted the ball into the box and it was headed home by Dean Schwartz.

“We have the potential to be very good each game, but we can only take it as far as we want,” Marchitto added. “We can do a lot of damage but we have to put our hearts and our heads into it every game,”

The Spartans outshot Sheehan 13-7.  Reserve netminder Valare DeMelier recorded 7 saves. Izzo was credited with 10 saves for the 2-5 losers.

Amity is back in action on Tuesday, hosting East Haven at 3:45 PM
