Amity Girls Do "So-So" Job at SCC Coach's Invitational

Greenberg & Depgen record personal best/state qualifying times.

Amity girls indoor track and field Coach Sean Mahon tried to keep his team’s 43rd place finish (out of 562 teams)  at Saturday’s Southern Connecticut Conference Coaches’ Invitational in perspective.

“We had some decent performances and some not-so-decent performances,” Mahon said, “We have to keep things in perspective. This was a huge championship-level meet. I knew coming into the meet, we weren’t going to fare so well as a team. Some of our girls are coming along nicely, but with last week’s two snow days off from school, it was hard for us to develop any consistency and prepare for the meet. Some of the girls are still out of shape.”

Rachel DePalma had the best day with her eighth place 8-feet 6-inch pole vault. The Lady Spartans’ 4x800 yard relay (Rebecca Race—2 minutes, 34.3 seconds, Alyssa Doolan—2:38, Cynthia Greenberg—2:36, and Lee Ann Beedle—2:35) combined for a tenth place 10:23.37. Kathleen Simon added a thirteenth place 31-feet throw in the shot put. The Lady Spartans’ sprint medley relay (Allie Maier: 200—27.7, Simon: 200—30.1, DePalma:400—1:03.2, and Race: 800—2:35.9 logged a 13th place 4:37.77.
