Amity's Jennifer Post to Play in the Scholar-Athlete Classic

Top students recognized at annual event.

The 4th annual Scholar-Athlete Softball All Star Classic will be played on Saturday, June 18th at Biondi Field in West Haven, starting at 6:30 p.m. Top high school softball players have been chosen by their coaches and guidance counselors to represent their schools. The selections are based on academic achievement, community involvement and skills on the field.

In the last three years, the Scholar-Athlete Softball All Star Classic has awarded in excess of $10,000 in scholarships and gifts to deserving players. Once again the game is hosted and sponsored by Federation Softball Umpires of Greater New Haven. The East team will be coached by Ron Rosarbo from Career High school. He will be assisted by Amity alum Sue Murphy, who is the Athletic Director and softball coach at Platt Tech of Milford. Former Amity athlete Melanie Paolini, currently the softball as well as both boys and girls swimming coach at Jonathan Law High School of Milford, will be leading the West team. She will be assisted by Foran High of Milford softball coach Jeff Bevino.

The Scholar Athlete Softball Classic showcases the area’s finest softball scholar athletes who, according to the All Star game guidelines, “act with integrity, compete with sportsmanship, character, and pride at all times. These athletes have learned to manage their time and commit fully to their respective teams and obligations.”

Among the 29 players chosen to participate in this game is Amity senior catcher Jennifer Post, who will play for the West team. An Orange resident, Post is the daughter of Bruce and Donna Post.  At 5-feet 9-inches tall, she bats and throws right-handed.

In addition to a 3.29 grade point average, Post is the recipient of the Counseling Department Student of Distinction Award and has been on the Honor Roll for every marking period. She has also been awarded Citizenship Honors.

While at Amity, Post has been a three sport athlete (volleyball, softball, and basketball), earned 10 varsity letters, and served as captain of each varsity team as a senior. She was also named the volleyball team’s 2010 Most Valuable Player. During her summers, Post has played for Competitive Edge, the Connecticut Charmers, and the Connecticut Raiders.

Upon her graduation from Amity, Post hopes to play varsity softball in college.

According to Lady Spartan Softball Coach Bob Purcell, “Jennifer’s selection was based on her class rank, SAT scores, GPA, community service and sportsmanship. Her excellence in softball was considered but was not a factor in her selection. This game is truly played by scholar-athletes.”

The 2010 All Star game was won by the East 12-7. Amity alum Allie Baker led the West team with two hits. She also struck out seven East hitters and was chosen as the West team’s Most Valuable Player.
