Boys Track Leaves Hillhouse in the Dust

Members named to All-Housy Team.

Showing its overall depth by placing athletes among the top six in all but three events (300 meter intermediate hurdles, 200, and the 4x400 relay), the Amity boys track and field team captured the Southern Connecticut Conference’s East Sectional meet last week at Sim Field in Woodbridge. The Spartans racked up 148.5 points with Hillhouse (120) finishing as the runner-up.

Alex Neumann, Jessie DiPietro, Sam Spencer, and Dean Bhatt won the 4x800 relay and also earned All-Housatonic Division honors with a first place time of 8 minutes, 11.53 seconds. It was the same story for Zezhong He, Hunter Ricks, Cory Ricks, and Kyle Kalanta as they won the 4x100 relay in 44.29 and also were included on the All-Housy team.

Clark Shurtleff’s 4:20.59 won the 3200. Showing their great strength in the throws, the Spartans claimed gold medals in the shot put (Charles Dunn—47-feet 6-inches) and the discus (Taylor Tambis—143-4). Tambis added a second place 139-6 in the javelin. Sean Cahill’s 131-2 gave him second place in the javelin. Jehanzeb Kayani posted a fourth place 41-7 in the shot put. Dennis Flanagan added a sixth place 104-0 in the discus. All of the above Spartan winners were included on the All-Housy team. Cory Ricks (2nd place 100—11.68) and Shurtleff (3rd in the 3200—10:01.50) were also named to the All-Housy team.
